What does it mean to be led by faith in a world led by everything else?
In order to walk in God's justice and righteousness, ideals need to become reality. The letters of John show us what it truly means to walk in faithfulness - no more lies, only truth, and Biblical love. We cannot live under lies and deception when we have the Word of God and the Spirit of God who lead us in all truth.
Society talks about being vulnerable; however, that does not mean being gullible and open to everyone and everything that is out there. We need to guard our hearts and our doctrine (the teaching of the Bible). Some areas that help us do this are having a strong understanding of the Word of God, the Presence of God, and the People of God. Don't go about it alone.
Faithfulness needs to be walked out in our lives. In John's letter 3 John, he shows Gaius three areas where faithfulness can be put into action- hospitality, generosity, and honor. These principles were embedded into the Jewish understanding of what it meant to love God and love your neighbor as yourself.
Being Christian and being loving does not mean entertaining and engaging everyone. There is a time where we need to reject certain people because of their false teaching or their sinful lifestyles. John points out a believer who is all about himself “Me, I, Myself” and this man is inhospitable, insubordinate, and irreverent. On the contrary, John calls all believers to imitate Jesus and not poor examples of Christian character.
